High on the slopes of Mount Meron in the Upper Galilee, Amirim is a moshav founded in 1958 by vegetarian families, and that founding idea still defines it: the village is known across Israel as a vegetarian and vegan community. From its terraces the view stretches toward the Sea of Galilee. Access is by Route 866 between Karmiel and Safed, followed by a winding climb up a mountain road. There is no railway anywhere near, regional buses are infrequent, and a car is close to essential. Rural tourism (guesthouses, vegetarian restaurants, workshops) and farming are the main occupations, under the Merom HaGalil Regional Council. Homes are scattered along a handful of sloping lanes with no real village centre. For an appointment, allow extra time for the drive up from the valley and park directly outside the address given: streets are quiet and parking is unrestricted.
