About Netanya

Netanya sits on the Sharon coast, about thirty kilometres north of Tel Aviv, and is home to one of Israel's most established French-speaking communities: French is heard on the street and many newcomers from France have settled here. The city is on the coastal railway line, putting both Tel Aviv and Haifa within direct reach. Shops cluster around the centre and the seafront, while the residential neighbourhoods spread eastwards, further from the station.

Netanya has its own general hospital, Laniado, along with a geriatric medical centre. Anything beyond their scope is referred to the larger centres of the Sharon and Gush Dan. Everyday care runs through one of the four health funds (Clalit, Maccabi, Meuhedet, Leumit); private practitioners, many of whom speak French here, are seen outside the funds and paid directly.
