A community settlement in the Binyamin hills north of Jerusalem, Kokhav Yaakov was founded in 1984 and belongs to the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council. It lies roughly ten kilometres from the centre of Jerusalem beside Route 60, the road running north toward Ramallah and Samaria; drivers come through the Hizma crossing and buses run from Jerusalem, as no railway reaches the area. Two very different parts make up the locality: the original core, religious-Zionist in character, and Tel Zion, a Haredi neighbourhood developed from the late 1990s that has become almost a town of its own. The terrain is hilly, streets climb and dip, and local shops are modest. Practical advice: ask the practice whether the address is in Kokhav Yaakov proper or in Tel Zion, and leave a margin for the Hizma crossing at rush hour.
