Jerusalem is Israel's largest city by population and one of the hardest to cross: it is built on hills, and two neighbourhoods close as the crow flies can be a long detour apart. The light rail, running between Pisgat Ze'ev and Mount Herzl, stays the most reliable option at busy hours. The city is also sharply divided into neighbourhoods with distinct populations, so when choosing where to be seen, the neighbourhood often tells you more than the street address.

The care landscape in Jerusalem

Jerusalem has several large hospitals spread across the city: Hadassah Ein Kerem and Hadassah Mount Scopus, Shaare Zedek, plus specialised institutions such as Herzog and the ALYN paediatric rehabilitation hospital. Augusta Victoria and Al-Makassed mainly serve East Jerusalem. For everyday care, membership of one of the four health funds (Clalit, Maccabi, Meuhedet, Leumit) is the entry point; private consultations are paid directly to the practitioner.
