About Bat Yam

A long seafront promenade, sandy beaches and a skyline of new towers facing the Mediterranean define Bat Yam today. The city sits directly south of Tel Aviv-Jaffa and west of Holon in the Gush Dan metropolitan area; it began in 1926 as Bayit VaGan and became a crowded urban centre where a large share of the population speaks Russian, following the immigration wave of the 1990s. Since 2023 the Red Line light rail has run the length of the city with several stops, and Bat Yam-Yoseftal station on the coastal railway brings you in from the south or from Tel Aviv in minutes; the Ayalon Highway (Route 20) is close at hand. Neighbourhoods stretch between the shore in the west and the Holon boundary in the east, with the older core around Balfour Street. If you have an appointment, take the light rail or the train: parking near the seafront is metered and heavily used, especially in summer.
