Petah Tikva began as one of the country's first moshavot in the late nineteenth century and is still called "the mother of the moshavot". Today it is a large city on the eastern side of the Tel Aviv conurbation, with sizeable business districts such as Kiryat Aryeh and Segula. The light rail Red Line has its northern terminus here, bringing the city closer to central Tel Aviv without a car.
Petah Tikva carries real weight on the country's hospital map. Rabin Medical Center brings together the Beilinson and Golda-HaSharon campuses, and Schneider Children's Medical Center, which takes patients from all over Israel, is here too.
