About Ashkelon

Ashkelon is the main city of the southern coast, some fifty kilometres from Tel Aviv and served by the coastal railway. The wave of immigration from the former USSR in the 1990s left a large Russian-speaking community, and Russian remains an everyday language in several neighbourhoods. The city is spread out and low-density: getting to an appointment usually means driving, and parking is not the problem it is further north.
