Directly north of Tel Aviv, boxed in by the coastal Highway 2 to the west, Highway 4 to the east and Highway 5 to the south, Ramat HaSharon has kept the look of a leafy suburb: tree-lined streets, houses with gardens, low apartment blocks. Farmers founded it in 1923 as Ir Shalom; the present name came later, and city status only in 2002. The Morasha neighbourhood in the east and Neve Gan complement the historic centre around Sokolov Street, where shops and cafés cluster. Canada Stadium, home of the national tennis centre, is its best-known sports venue. There is no station within the municipal boundary, but Herzliya and Tel Aviv University stations are a few minutes away by bus, and frequent routes run into central Tel Aviv. Advice for an appointment: the Highway 5 approach jams in the morning, so allow extra time, and rely on the car parks in the centre rather than street parking.
