About Yavne

Two railway stations for a mid-sized town is Yavne's trump card: Yavne West, on the Tel Aviv-Pleshet line next to the central bus station and the Yavne interchange, and Yavne East, on the Lod-Ashkelon line by the amphitheatre; local buses link both to the neighbourhoods. This Central District town in the southern coastal plain is 6 km from the sea, 20 km south of Jaffa and 15 km north of Ashdod. Route 42 crosses it north to south along Independence Boulevard, Route 410 leads to Rehovot and Route 4 bypasses it to the west. Founded in 1949 as a transit camp, it absorbed newcomers from Romania, North Africa, Yemen and Iran, then from the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia in the 1990s. Beyond the older districts of the centre, Neot Rabin in the south is the "green neighbourhood", Neve Ilan and Neot Shamir flank Route 4, and Yavne East is rising in the south-east.
