Among the youngest cities in Israel, Elad was planned in the 1990s, first occupied in 1998 and declared a city in 2008. It lies in the Central District, east of Petah Tikva and south of Rosh HaAyin, alongside Route 444 and a minute from Highway 6 (the Trans-Israel Highway), which puts Tel Aviv and Jerusalem about half an hour away outside peak traffic. Built for a Haredi population, it brings together Sephardic and Ashkenazi communities, with a large share of Sephardic families and a very young age profile. The town is compact: mid-rise apartment blocks, looping streets around a commercial centre, and many synagogues and schools. There is no station in town; the nearest is Rosh HaAyin North, and buses run to Bnei Brak, Petah Tikva and Jerusalem. For an appointment, driving in via Route 444 is simplest; kerbside parking is free, and the city is closed to traffic on Shabbat.
