About Eilat

Israel ends at Eilat, on the Gulf of Aqaba at the northern tip of the Red Sea: it is the city farthest from the centre of the country (about 240 km from Beersheba via the Arava) and its main beach resort, with a hot desert climate all year. Arrival is by air at Ramon Airport, opened in 2019 some twenty kilometres north and linked to town by shuttles and buses, by Route 90 through the Arava or Route 12 across the Negev, or by intercity bus from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Beersheba; there is no train. Eilat is a free-trade zone where VAT is not charged. Hotels cluster on the North Beach and along the Coral Beach, while residential districts such as Shahamon and Ganim rise on the hills behind. The city touches the borders with Egypt (Taba) and Jordan (Aqaba). For an appointment in summer, avoid walking at midday and take a taxi or a city bus; parking is easy outside the hotel zone.
