The name means "two hills", and that is what you climb: Givatayim grew from the Borochov workers' neighbourhood founded in 1922 on the rises east of Tel Aviv, and today it forms one dense urban block with Ramat Gan. There is no visible boundary with its neighbours; a Tel Aviv street simply turns into a Givatayim street. The city is compact and walkable, with noticeable slopes between districts such as Borochov, Kiryat Yosef, Givat Rambam and Arlozorov. Tel Aviv Savidor and HaShalom railway stations are a short bus ride away, and many bus lines cross the city towards the metropolitan centre. A tip for visitors: street parking is scarce and much of it is resident-only in the blue-and-white zones, so arriving by public transport or taxi saves a long search.
