About Pardes Hanna-Karkur

Orchards gave Pardes Hanna-Karkur its name (pardes means orchard), and the place still feels semi-rural: large plots, detached houses and eucalyptus-lined lanes a few kilometres east of Hadera and the coast, in the northern Sharon. Two separate moshavot were merged in 1969: Karkur, founded in 1913, and Pardes Hanna, set up in 1929 by the Rothschild-backed PICA and named after Hannah Rothschild. An agricultural high school opened in 1934 reflects that heritage; since the 2000s young families from the centre of the country have moved in for the space. The local council is bordered by Highway 65 (Hadera-Afula), while Road 652 runs through it toward Binyamina. Caesarea-Pardes Hanna station on the coastal railway lies west of the built-up area, close to Highway 2. For an appointment, count on a car or a taxi from the station: the municipality sprawls and walking distances are long.
